Tan Mei Lian

Sports Trainer

Biography

Mei Lian has been working as a Sports Trainer for the past 3 years since her graduation from Republic Polytechnic. Her journey in the world of sports began with her involvement in Ultimate Frisbee during her secondary school years. This passion drove her to pursue a Diploma in Sports and Exercise Science. Throughout her course of study, she developed a keen interest in injury management and exercise prescription, gaining substantial experience in on-field sports injury management during her internship at Republic Polytechnic.

Upon completing her diploma, Mei Lian started her career as a Sports Trainer cum Therapist Assistant. In this role, she assisted our physiotherapists in treatment and rehabilitation exercises. Her time as a Sports Trainer inspired her to further her education and she went on to earn a Bachelor of Science in Exercise and Sports Science from Edith Cowan University.

Mei Lian’s meticulous attention to detail, practical application of biomechanics, and her understanding of patients’ needs and motivation have proven invaluable in helping numerous patients achieve their maximum potential during their rehabilitation. Her expertise extends to a wide range of cases, including patients recovering from Total Knee Reconstruction (TKR) surgery, individuals dealing with shoulder impingement, ankle and knee sprains, and even those undergoing ACL reconstruction surgeries. Collaborating closely with our physiotherapists, Mei Lian devises tailored rehabilitation programs to facilitate patients’ return to their daily activities, which may also include a comeback to sports.

In addition to her extensive knowledge in the field, Mei Lian has a background in nutrition acquired during her Bachelor’s program. She leverages this expertise to create personalized meal plans for diverse patients, including breastfeeding mothers, individuals engaged in weight management programs, and athletes undergoing intensive rehabilitation for their sports reentry.

Outside of her work, Mei Lian remains an active member of the Scouting movement in Singapore. She generously volunteers her time as an Adult Scout Leader, playing a pivotal role in planning and executing programs for Scouts, ranging from Junior Scouts to Rover Scouts.
